The next few posts will be ones that I have written while on vacation in Boracay a few weeks ago.

August 14
So I made it back to Boracay after 11 years and boy, a lot sure has changed! The place where we stayed the first time around was a house that rented out the second floor. Now, that area appears to be where d’mall is.
I don’t remember much about that first Boracay trip except that I was cranky the whole drive from Sapian, Capiz to Caticlan and that carried over until we arrived at the house. It was raining that time and we couldn’t get out to the water as soon as we landed because the waves were too high. So having my plans foiled by Mother Nature had me locking myself in the room resisting the urge to get out of bed and look around. I guess you could say that my memory of Boracay was the inside of a bamboo room.
My mom just reminded me that I was pissed at the lodgings that we had because it had no view of the beach. I let out a line that went, Sa eskuwelahan bubong na nga nakikita ko, hanggang dito ba naman bubong pa rin!” (The view I see from school are all rooftops, it’s the same thing even here!) I had in fact suppressed that memory and am embarrassed to admit that I had been so callous as to let out a statement like that.
My parents being the good parents that they are looked for lodgings for the four of us close to the beachfront. I remember now that the reason they gave me for moving into that room was because the house was too crowded for all of us. (My grandparents, various cousins and aunts were with us that time.) My mom told me now that the real reason was because of my mood that time. Yes, I was in a full-blown, major, kick-ass snit the last time I was in Boracay. No wonder I didn’t really have any memories of this place.
This time around, we’re staying at the Village Resort where my parents have a timeshare. That means that we actually have the privilege of going here for a week within a year. That should cure me of my cravings for the beach life.
It’s our third day of travel, but I haven’t been to the sea yet. The winds are really strong this time of the year and the sea was rolling and roiling of on the other side of the island. In front of the resort, the waters are calmer but there’s no beach not until low tide when the sea rolls back as far as the eye can see.
I did take a morning swim at the pool with my mom and dad before breakfast. That could really be a routine that I could work with. An early morning swim, breakfast, settling down for some work or a good book, lunch and whatever else the place has to offer. Should be a good life over all.
