To say that I love books, may prove to be an understatement. I buy to release stress and it’s either a new pair of shoes or several books, not necessarily new. One time that I was under so much stress, I even told my boss about my expanding shoe collection! What I didn’t tell him is that I was adding on to my personal library as well.
Like many others in my generation and the generation before me, I started with the Nancy Drew books. My carefully collected and audited collection has now been passed on with AlienLangPo being the major beneficiary. I soon moved on to fiction and the bestsellers with a few sidetrips to the classics. I may be one of a handful of people who went for plus credit exams in high school by devouring books outside of the reading lists. (I sneaked in a Sidney Sheldon for a book report. :D)
As you can see in my previous post, fiction –particularly romances– make up most of my collection. Off to one side not seen in the picture, I have some of my childhood book collections. I still have quite a few of the Nancy Drews and Sweet Valley books that I have amassed. Outside my room, we have two more full shelves of books. Then, downstairs in the living room area, a couple more shelves. Behind the certificates and the pictures though hide my current shelf containing business and training books.
The one who started me off on this genre was my first real boss. She also happens to be my third (and current second-level manager).
When I resigned from her the first time to move on to a new company and to a position with more responsibility, she told me to continue picking up skills that I would need by attending training sessions and reading books. I never got around to attending classes but buy those books, I did.
Some of the recent additions to this collection are the following:

Mind Maps at Work : How to Be the Best at Your Job and Still Have Time to Play
The World Is Flat [Updated and Expanded] : A Brief History of the Twenty-first Century
The Consultant’s Big Book of Organization Development Tools
I have the books but having the time to read them is another thing. Regardless of the genre, I have a couple of books as backlog. How I wish responsibility goes away!
