I’ve been trying to write but I end up with half-baked nonsense. I’ve been doing audits at work and all my other tasks are piling up in the background. I still need to create my development plan for this year and I’m part of the organizing committeee of the major event for this quarter. I’ve resorted to keeping logged in after I come home from midshift work so I can minimize my queue. Just wanted to check in and keep the discipline of writing hence this post.
To prove my detachment from the rest of the world, I was the last to know something that happened practically under my nose. There have been chopped up corpses thrown around the city a couple of weeks ago. The first time it happened, a left leg was found along a major avenue near the hospital in our area. Yesterday at dawn, they found an arm (?) in the alley that has its entrance across our garage gate. The thing is, I went home from work at around 1:30am and alighted the taxi on that side of the road since the cab entered the street from the opposite direction.
My aunt who sleeps in the front room together with our wee one, said that after I arrived, she heard another vehicle stop in front. Discovery of the body part happened around 4am when people started gathering in the alley. Looking back, if I arrived later I could have been a witness to something nefarious! Turns out, this was already the second body part dumped somewhere in our street in the last week. I only learned about this when I was having lunch with my aunt before work yesterday afternoon.
The recent incident was on TV news (according to those who are at home to catch the news) but I couldn’t find it on online papers. I’m not even freaked out that it happened. Apart from a reminder from my aunt to text her when I’m on my way home, nobody else gave me any warnings when I left for work. Have we become so jaded and cynical that things like this can’t even elicit strong emotions?
