My subscription copy of The New York Times Online just arrived and I decided to take a break from what I was doing to read the articles. Imagine my surprise when I read this:
An aide to Mr. Brown responded hours later that the director would need a restaurant in Baton Rouge that night. “It is very important that time is allowed for Mr. Brown to eat dinner,” the message said.
Mr Brown is Michael D. Brown, former Director of FEMA who resigned after the big Katrina booboo. The quote was an answer to an email sent by the lone FEMA worker in New Orleans when the hurricane struck, Marty J. Bahamonde. The emails that he sent regarding the worsening situation surfaced during the hearing of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee on Thursday (Washington, DC time). The Committee discussion managed to show just how the federal government disregarded those who went through the storm in New Orleans.
