Time to be kikay

September 15th, 2005 · 2 Comments

Kikay Filipino slang term pertaining to being flirty, flighty, obssessed with image and grooming or a person who indulges in such activites. A girly girl.

I have always said that I am low-maintenance. True to form, I can get ready to go out of the house in 20 minutes tops. I hardly spend time primping and posing in front of a mirror. That is, until now.

Lately I find myself frequenting shops like Beauty Bar and spending time browsing through the girl stuff in department stores. I am obssessed with Watsons most especially. When I met with Jane and Josh, she commented that she liked my top. It was a plain black t-shirt top with a somewhat plunging neckline that gave shape to my torso. A few years ago, you would not have me buy that top much less wear it. I told her that I have come to realize that I need to assert my femininity since I’m drowning in a sea an ocean of testosterone particularly at work.

More and more I watch makeover shows like How Do I Look? from the Style Network and Ambush Makeover. I sometimes wish that they would feature me there. Right now, I’m trying to overhaul my wardrobe from just being serviceable to also being fashionable. I also recently bought new lipstick and eye makeup and have taken my nearing expiry blushers and stuff to good use. Although I don’t go all out in the office since I work in a corporate setting but IT environment where shirts, jeans and sneakers rule the day. When I wear makeup I here, it’s a guarantee that somebody would ask me if I had a date after work.

After several times of looking around Watsons and the like, here are some of my recommended stuff:

Hair

Citre Shine ShampooCitre Shine Smooth Out Shampoo
It’s infused with citrus extracts that helps clean and add shine to the hair. Since I have not been paying attention to my hair for the past few months, it’s the longest that it has been for the past two years. I had to deal with it drying out and turning frizzy on me. When I started using this shampoo, it makes it feel silky soft even when wet. I used the smooth out variant since the humidity here just makes my hair go crazy. Bonus factor would be the scent of tangerine and grapefruit which gives me a wonderful lift while showering.

conditionerCitre Shine Smooth Out Conditioner
Paired with the shampoo I found that the combo makes my hair shinier and easier to manage even after just using it twice. The conditioner doesn’t have the similar strong citrus smell as the shampoo. My hair is now softer and less tangled than before. I find that I enjoy brushing my hair now than ever before because my comb or brush just glides through my hair!

hair repairSt. Ives Hair Repair Intensive Conditioner
I use this about 2 times a week alternating with the other conditioner. That is how dry my hair has become. I need something to try to repair it. I like this since it has infusions of mint that makes your scalp tingly while it’s on. As it says on the bottle, you can feel when it is working. It’s a great relief after the stress of a long week.

The Body Shop’s Bilberry Hair Detangler
I’ve had this for a while now but I haven’t been using it regularly. In addition to conditioning hair this protects it from harmful UV rays. It also has a fresh scent that leaves hair smelling fresh and sexy.

Body

Since about 10 years ago, I stopped using soaps since it makes my skin dry and prone to being brittle. My allergies make my skin particularly sensitive so my dermatologist told me to try out body washes with the correct pH. The first one that I used was from Germany which my doctor stocks in her office. It costs me 300 bucks per 100mL bottle and my wallet wasn’t happy. Good thing J&J launched their pH5.5 Body Wash at around the time my supply of the non-soap was dwindling. Since then, I’ve tried several more non-soap washes to cleanse my skin. Good thing too since it seems that the 5.5 wash is no longer available locally.

olayOlay Complete Body Wash for Normal Skin
This body wash leaves my skin smooth and slick after the shower. It doesn’t have a particularly strong scent so it works well for me. I also use the bar version of the product as well particularly if I’m travelling and I don’t want to bring along a whole bottle with me. It is not a particularly fragrant body wash. It’s thick, creamy feel just seems so decadent for everyday.

jergensJergens Skin Firming Body Wash
I just started using this body wash as I noticed my skin has lost it’s elasticity as it stretched across my wide frame. It has a silky texture on the body with an interesting scent that I like. It makes for a very luxurious shower experience!

HealingJergen’s Ultra Healing
I carry a small bottle of this wherever I go. I am a firm believer in hand washing and since my skin really has the tendency to be very dry, I moisturize after every wash. It does well for my feet in particular since I suffer from my dermatitis in that area the most. Keeping my tootsies hydrated keeps it from becoming itchy.

I’ve got several more pampering stuff that I’d like to write about but that would need to be left for another day.

Sinabi mo! I do it to de-stress myself. Make myself look fabulous just to forget the pressures of the day! *sigh*
